Blair leads the inaugural jam at The Scratch Bar, Sep 2019.

The Scratch Jam is held on every 3rd Sunday of the month, normally between 12:30 and 2:30 pm, at The Scratch Bar, Shop 8 Park Road, Milton.

BUMS Inc Life Member, Blair Marks, one of our most experienced jam leaders, established a jam at The Scratch Bar, Milton. It’s been running since September 2014.

Blair continues to run The Scratch Jam, and Andrew is usually there to back him up. I’m a regular at the jam. I go there for several reasons.

Firstly, it’s an intimate gathering so it is a bit like a band jam session. Most of the players that come are regulars but we naturally welcome newcomers.

It’s cozy inside The Scratch Bar on a rainy day.

Secondly, it’s a great venue. The staff are laid back and friendly so it’s a pleasant atmosphere to play in on a Sunday afternoon.

Thirdly, if you like a tipple, this is a boutique bar where they support the smaller brewers. The Scratch has a wonderful range of beers and ciders. Andrew and I both like the black beers. They usually have a very tasty porter on tap. But no matter what your taste, you’ll find something to suit you. Even if you don’t drink, it’s always a fun couple of hours.

Blair selects a quite eclectic range of songs to play and also takes requests. Songs range from the simple to the more challenging, so it’s good chance to expand your musical horizons and abilities.

You would expect parking to be hard to find there, but there’s actually plenty of parking behind the venue. It’s not obvious but there is a paved driveway just on the left-hand side of the bar. So you can turn right 30 metres or two shops past the Scratch Bar in Park Road (if you’re coming from the Milton Road end), and you’ll find plenty of free parking spots at the back.

We normally play at the front of the bar on the street front, so it’s a nice outdoor fresh air setting. But if the weather does turn nasty, we play inside.Come along, we’d love to see you there, and you’ll be glad you came.   Graham Hall
