FREE WORKSHOP- JOHNNY CASH AS YOU NEVER KNEW HIM from 8:15PM

The man in black, Johnny Cash, had a significant impact on the country music scene, but he in turn was influenced by others. So this is not yet another trotting out of Folsom Prison Blues, I Walk the Line and Ring of Fire! Oh, no – it’s is an unheralded side of Johnny Cash, an excursion into a different yet familiar world.

Direct from a glittering premiere at the 2018 Mountview Winery Autumn Ukulele Festival, Peter Ransom will present this unique program of great music and fascinating but useless trivia at BUMS Northside on May 22, 2018. Everyone is invited to be part of it, playing and singing and perhaps performing with the previously-unheard of Johnny Cash Chorale (in true Northside/Tony Richardson fashion, the Chorale will be formed on the night).

If you’re not totally at ease with this focus on J. Cash, be assured it doesn’t go on all evening and it’s not a grinding look at the rough stuff in his life. It runs for about 45 minutes and it’s fun.

VENUE: Northern Suburbs Bowls Club. 175 Edinburgh Castle Rd, Wavell Heights.
TIME: Beginners Class at 6:30 pm.  Jam starts 7:00 pm.
COST: BUMS Inc members FREE; and visitors $5. Includes Beginners Class and ‘Johnny Cash As You Never Knew Him’.

Another fabulous Jingle BUMS featuring many of our performing groups and members, and lots and lots of our favourite Christmas songs.

Free Range chUKES and The Cage started the night with a beautifully led set of I want a Hippo for Christmas, Silver Stars, War is Over.

It wouldn’t be Jingle BUMS without Jimmy Hooper’s clever Christmas rap. Jimmy also led the jam in A Blue Christmas, Frosty the Snowman, and a rousing rendition of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.

With Blair we saw Mummy Kissing Santa Claus, an absolute favourite with jammers. Then David delighted us with an easy to play, new addition to our Christmas repertoire – Christmas at Ground Zero.

Our newest BUMS community band, Just Flukey, became leading lights with Jingle Bell Rock, Feliz Navidad, and Rocking Around The Christmas Tree. A big congratulations to band leader Charmaine for the tremendous work she has done with the band this year. And a resounding round of applause for Daphne Bradshaw who has gone from ukulele bootcamp beginner in March, to shining star, singing lead in December.

Another new group, Spare Parts (includes familiar faces, Diane from The CAGE, Peter from NUMB BUMS and Len from Uketet), had us Deck the Shed with Bough of Wattle, and Run Run with Rudolph, before we dined on full 12 Days of Turkey.

There were prizes, prizes and more prizes – with our original performing BUMS, Bah Humbug, Phil McBride, taking out the most coveted prize of best Christmas hat, and bass man Ross Clark winning the weekend at Mount View Winery, Glen Aplin, generously donated by Dave and Angela McGrath.

We jammed with Adrian by Dreaming of a White Christmas. Our illustrious leader Max, led us in the beautiful Xmas ballad, Mary’s Boy Child, before poor Grandma’s unfortunate accident with the reindeer, and a fabulous Christmas melody parody.

To end the night, The Bottom Line made big come back, leading Let it Snow, Santa Baby and rounded out the evening with the aptly chosen Put A Little Love in your Heart.

A very big thank you to MC, Rob Carlyle for traffic control, Blair, Gary and David on sound, and The CAGE for catering and set up.

Christmas is coming and it’s time to get festive at Jingle BUMS.

Grab your ukulele, your family and friends and kick off the holiday season with all your ukulele friends. We have a cracker of a night of entertainment, fun and frivolity to end 2017 with a bang!

‘Cesca and Geoffrey advised WE BUMS regulars at the October WE BUMS that they’d be taking a beak for the rest of 2017. The decision was made after HOPE St Café booked another event on our second Friday. The Café is renovating through December.

There will be no WE BUMS in January as it is New Years Day, so we will be well into 2018 before BUMS have another jam at West End.

Thank you to ‘Cesca, Geoff and their crew for their enthusiasm and energy in running WE BUMS. Coming up with fresh themes and songs every month makes WE BUMS a truly unique experience in our jam agenda.

Stay tuned about plans for next year!

Ferny Grove is perfect for new players. This jam is led by experienced musicians Paul Morris of Morris Brothers Music and Linda Gough of Ivory Frets Music.
Paul and Linda choose popular songs, played at a nice easy (slower) pace. The songs are curated to be fun to sing, with 2 to 4 chords per song, and using the most common chords – Am, A7, C, C7, D, Dm, D7, E7, Em, F, G7, G.
