Ukulele sail is definitely on

We have confirmation that the ukulele cruise on Queensland's Tall Ship, South Passage is definitely ON. The sail is open to all ukulele players (not just BUMS) to combine a day out on Moreton Bay with a stopover on St Helena Island for lunch and a jam. Bring family and friends as well.   Bookings can be made online through South Passage or by calling the South Passage office. 

South Passage is Queensland's Tall Ship, built to give school-age children and the public the experience of life under sail.  Check out South Passage.  Have a look at the Gallery to get an idea of what the ship is like.

The plan is to enjoy the sailing and the sights of Moreton Bay, get involved with sailing the ship (or just watch) and stop for lunch and a jam on St Helena Island.

We will be able to jam using songs on tablets or on paper.  We will have copies of the BUMS song book (the one we used at the Planetarium event in 2023) for sale at $5 each.  It has 68 songs to choose from. There will also be sea shanties and open mic opportunities.

Details of the day.

• Sailing day is Saturday 15 November.
• Duration: Six hours
• Departure: 10.00am from Manly Boat Harbour. Plan to arrive by 9.30am to give yourself time to park and get to the jetty.
• Morning sail will depend on the wind and weather conditions.
• Lunch: Moor up on the jetty at St Helena Island for lunch and a jam. There are toilets and shelter on the island.
• Afternoon sail will depend on the wind and weather conditions. Expect to be back at Manly Boat Harbour by 4.00pm.
• BYO picnic food and drinks in a small esky. No glass on board please.
• Bring your ukulele, a tablet if you use one and a small stand to hold your music.
• Cost: $135 a head (discounted for us - usually $150)
• Bring family too, even if they don't play uke.

Be aware:

• Access to South Passage is up a gangplank and down a few steps to the deck.
• Access to the saloon is down a short steep flight of steps.
• There are toilets and washing facilities in the saloon.
• Bring a hat that won't blow off, sunscreen, sunglasses and a long-sleeved rashie or jacket.  Wear closed-in shoes (no thongs).
• The boat sails in all weather, so bring a waterproof if needed.  There is shelter in the saloon below the main deck.
• South Passage is a no-smoking vessel.
• She is a sailing ship, so she may heel over in the wind, and you will need to hold on. Quells are suggested if you feel you may get queasy.
