Ukulele vs State of Origin
8th June 2024

It was a clear win for the Mighty Maroons on 5 June with the Coorparoo jam coming in a close second. Despite Darrell Reeve’s sky-blue shirt, NSW were a distant third.
There were close to 50 people in attendance – a great turnout for an Origin night.
Thanks to the three volunteers (and one apology) who came along to be inducted into the mysteries of setting up the stage and PA systems at Coorparoo. As Steve Sandilands said, it’s important that we involve our members in running our events, so we are not over reliant on just a few people. It’s the same with scrolling the songs. We can all be involved in making our jams successful.
The night was kicked off by Adrian, Tony O’Callaghan and Simon. A good mix of songs – some well-known, some challenging and a couple of Beatles numbers.
Eight players from Out on Bail played ‘songs you don’t expect from a ukulele band.’ They were accompanied by a phantom drum machine who got the sack halfway through the set.
Spare Parts finished off the night with an upbeat set of songs including two more Beatles numbers. Diane, Pete, David and Len are already working on more songs for their next set.
Great to see a few new faces in the audience and to welcome Andrew Hunt back from the wilds of Canade and Alaska. It was good to have everyone leaving with a smile on their face (apart from the NSW supporters whose team at that time were 6-20 down).
