Vale Peter Ransom
25th October 2024
By Peter Grace
Sad news with the passing of Peter Ransom on 21 October 2024. Pete was a member of BUMS for over 13 years and was a great supporter of all things ukulele. If you didn’t know the man, you missed a gem.
Here are some highlights of Pete’s life with BUMS.
- Joined BUMS 23 May 2011.
- Ran workshops, led jams, did open mics, supported festivals, played in performance bands.
- Amazing performer – even if things went wrong, he was always in control.
- Always ready to help encourage, inspire and coach others.
- Loved sharing his knowledge of classic songs particularly jazz and blues.
- Played ukulele on Who Wants to be a Millionaire.
Here’s a quote from Pete
“I first went along to BUMS at Coorparoo with one of my little Kumalae ukes. Not exactly a light bulb moment, but I realized that here was an opportunity to play and sing with like-minded people. After the rather restrictive trad jazz genre, I could perform virtually anything I fancied, be it rock, Latin, pop, C&W or whatever.”
Memorial
Pete’s memorial is on Thursday 31 October at Victoria Park, Herston at 3.30pm
Here is more detail including an opportunity to RSVP. Please come in a BUMS shirt and remember the life and times of Peter Ransom. If you don’t have BUMS shirt contact secretary@brisbaneukulele.com and one can be provided. Let’s give Pete a good send-off.
