JAMES HILL WORKSHOPS

Many of our Uke players enjoyed a wonderful Monday afternoon with James Hill, a well-known and well-respected Ukulele Player and Teacher from Canada.

James’s style of teaching is wonderfully entertaining and informative, ensuring that all players from Beginners to Advanced were able to benefit from the workshops. His step-by-step guidance ensured that everyone understood the concepts and were able to play along.

The first workshop went through our favourite 3 chords, C, F and G7. We explored lots of different options for playing these chords to add interest and add to the group sound. Using groupings of ‘Open voicings’, ‘Closed voicings’ and then ‘Jazz voicings’, we then played the classic “You are my Sunshine”! I think we made it sound great!

The second workshop was all about jazz and amazingly, by the end, he had everyone doing some improvisation on the song, ‘Sweet Sue’ (although I have to admit some were much better than others haha)

Finally, we were treated to a beautiful song by James and his wife, Anne, Together, they go by the name of ‘Champagne Weather’ Look them up, they were so beautiful to listen to!

Thank you so much for a wonderful afternoon of learning and listening!
