Coorparoo Jam – 3 September

Around 50 BUMS members and visitors dropped into the Coorparoo Bowls Club on Wednesday night to enjoy another evening of music, laughter, and community spirit.

The night kicked off with a beginners’ class led by Salli Chmura, who gave newcomers a warm welcome and the confidence to join in the jam.

Set 1 was led by Max from Toowong, with Simon on bass, taking us through a lively mix including Freight Train, Stewball, Eddystone Light, Jambalaya, Sounds of Silence, and the ever-popular I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles), with Amanda giving us her best Scottish accent

Set 2 featured Ukulele Friday — Gabi Liddle, Jen Reynolds, and Sam Reynolds — bringing the crowd to life with their polished harmonies and song choices such as Drops of Jupiter, Jolene, and House of Gold.

Set 3 was all about the classics, as The Grandies (Graham Hall, Rose Grasmeder, Russell Scheikowski, and Kevin Buckley) treated us to a full Roy Orbison set, from Dream Baby through to Only the Lonely and Working for the Man. The crowd sang along to every hit.

A special thanks goes to our behind-the-scenes heroes — Blair Marks, Geoff Dancer, and Karen Borchardt — for their work in setting up and packing down, making sure the night ran smoothly.

Finally, a big shout-out to all our set leaders for sharing their talent and energy, and to everyone who came along and added their voices. Nights like this remind us why we love playing together.

We look forward to seeing you at the next jam!
