WEBUMS organisation
WEBUMS is one of our newer jams. It has been running since 2023 on the second Tuesday of the month at the Archive Beer Boutique in West End. BUMS Life Member, Cath McCourt, initially led the jam, supported by Andrew Hunt, and Merv and Barbro Harcourt.
In February 2025, Peter Orford, Angela Leader and Amanda Wenzel took over from Merv and Barbro. Cath is now enjoying the freedom of ‘van life’ and has stepped down from leading the jam. The BUMS Management Committee thanks Cath for her leadership and musicianship over that period.
Len Henderson has agreed to take over her role. Len and his wife Karen used to run the Binary Music shop at Cleveland and are now living in West End. Len is an accomplished ukulele player and runs the Dukes of Uke ukulele group which practices in Cleveland.

Expect to see Len leading sets at WEBUMS and perhaps other BUMS jams.

In Cath’s absence, a crowd of about 30 players enjoyed an evening of music in the splendid ambience of The Loft at the Archive. Spare Parts led a couple of sets and songs included Rockin’ Rollin’ Clementine as a tribute to Col Joye, Lookin’ Out my Back Door from Creedance and the sea shanty Wellerman.

We only had time for one open mic and BUMS new secretary Loraine Wallace and Russell Scheikowski obliged with a fine rendition of Fastball’s The Way.
Adrian Board and Tony (guitar) and Jock (keyboards) O’Callaghan challenged us with some of the songs they plan to play at the McDowell State School Spring Festival on 13 September. These included the wonderful Lady Madonna, Throw Your Arms Around me and ROCK in the USA.
