Top review for Out on Bail

Bums community band Out On Bail were performing at the Rocklea Hotel on Saturday, 15 November. A crowded bar room swayed in the hot steamy night as Darrell Reeves led the BUMS community band, Out On Bail, through two incredible sets of contemporary music - cover songs that ordinarily, people don’t believe can be played on the ukulele.

The night was made all the more special thanks to a visit from unofficial ABC music and concert reviewer, John from Kallangur, whose reputation on the ABC Brisbane Breakfast show as an authority on concerts around the country is far-reaching.

John joined us at the gig and chatted to members of the band as we were setting up. His review was generous in his praise of Out on Bail, with his Monday morning Gig report identifying Out on Bail as a must-see band. The call has since gone out from ABC listeners for more details about concerts featuring Out on Bail.

In his Thursday chat on air, John again mentioned Out on Bail, comparing favourably the quality of the cover songs with the original performers. Particular mention was made of Out on Bail’s versions of Turning Japanese, The Real Thing, and the Easy Beats numbers.

The BUMS community can be very proud of their fellow strummers who performed brilliantly under Darrel’s leadership.  Players interested in joining Out on Bail are always welcome.  They practice most Sunday afternoons from 2:00–4:00pm.
