Ferny Grove Jam 19th November

Another great night at Ferny Grove Sports Club. There were just over 60 members and visitors in attendance, with many enjoying drinks and a meal prior to the jam. As always, Donna and Derek took an enthusiastic beginners group, beginning at 6pm, before the jam kicked off at 7pm.

Linda and Kev led us in the first set, playing some old favourites like Save the last Dance and Living next door to Alice. We also enjoyed going back to our childhoods with Puff, the Magic Dragon

In the first break, Rose and Deb did an amazing job playing 2 songs ensemble style…’Sheep may safely Graze’ and ‘Minuet in G Major’. It’s obvious they have been doing a LOT of practise!

The second set was led by the Bunyaville Buskers. The set began with ‘Heart and Soul’ and continued with lots of great songs, mostly from the 1960’s. These included ‘Da doo Ron Ron’ and ‘Eight days a week’.

Donna and Derek took to the stage in the second break, performing ‘Crazy’ and a bluegrass number, ‘You’re gonna miss me when I’m gone’.

The final set of the night was a big one, including ‘Last train to Clarksville, ‘Sealed with a Kiss’ and the whole 8 minutes of ‘American Pie’ by Don McLean. (Linda includes this song once every year as a tribute to Paul Morris, who co-led the Ferny Grove jam for many years.) ‘What’s Up’ was the last song and a great rousing way to end the evening.

The next Ferny Grove jam will be on Wednesday 10th December.
This will be the combined Christmas Spectacular with Northside, held this year at Ferny Grove. Come along for some nibbles and Christmas fun to celebrate another great year of BUMS!
