Help needed on the Welcome desk at jams

07th March 2026
By Peter Grace

At most of our jams, you’ll be greeted by a happy smiling BUM or two.  Their job is to welcome you to the jam; register your attendance and handle any questions you may have about BUMS.  We would like to find more people to help on the welcome desks so we can share the work around and cover short-term absences.

What does the job entail?

  • Turning up 45 minutes before a jam starts, to set up the Welcome desk
  • Recording details of attendees either by scanning their details on the Member Jungle App or signing in on paper.
  • Helping sign up new members and arranging renewals.
  • Accepting cash and EFTPOS payments.
  • Making newcomers and guests especially welcome.
  • Copying attendance and payment records and sending them to the Treasurer and Secretary.
  • Always having a smile on your face.

You can usually close the Welcome Desk half an hour after the jam starts and enjoy the jam.

Being part of the crew doesn't mean you have to attend every jam, every month. Most of our volunteers help out at the usual jam they attend, and go to other jams occasionally when there is a need.

Training and support

We will provide training, documentation and ongoing support to help you find your feet in the job.
