West End BUMS in July

What a fantastic night of music and ukulele magic at our jam! 🎶✨

Andrew and Simon kicked things off with “Soul Sister”, and then took us through some energetic classics including R.E.M.’s “Stand”, “Rock the Casbah” (with those fast chord changes!), and “In the Air Tonight” featuring the drum riff played on our uke bodies which added to the groove. We surfed through “Wipe Out” with a cheeky Z chord riff, rocked “Chained to the Wheel”, and enjoyed a beautiful version of “Wild World”.

The next set featured  Graeme, Steve, Kevin and Amanda. They played a brilliant Bob Dylan set — “Like a Rolling Stone,” “Blowin’ in the Wind” (those amazing audience harmonies!), “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door,” “It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue,” “Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright”(complete with a key change to keep us on our toes!) and “The Times They Are A-Changin’.” We slowed things down with “Make You Feel My Love,” “Mr Tambourine Man,”

The final set was from our @westendukulelegroup house band Fooled Em Again: Steve, Simon, Frank, Meghan and Ross rolling with “Valerie,” “Working in a Coal Mine” (complete with that metal drum sound!), a beautiful slow “Ain’t No Sunshine” with the Am7 groove, the hilarious “These Boots Are Made for Walking,” “Polk Salad Annie,” and finishing up with “Come Up and See Me.”

So many great musicians, harmonies, laughs and memorable moments. Thanks everyone for bringing your voices and your ukuleles! See you next month on 11 August.
