The three-session course is presented by Julie Sharpe and Keryn Henderson. Julie’s been a performing member for more than 5 years and is currently studying the James Hill approach to teaching ukulele. Keryn’s led the pre-jam beginners groups at Northside and Coorparoo Jams. Julie and Keryn put many beginners through their paces at the Ukulele Bootcamp during SPRUKE 2015.
Session 1 — 6:45-8:30 pm, Wednesday 15 March
Session 2 — 6:45-8:30 pm, Wednesday 22 March
Session 3 — 6:45-8:30 pm, Wednesday 29 March
At Beginners Ukulele Bootcamp you will:
begin with C, F and G … and learn new chords each session
train your ear to recognise notes and chords
study the fretboard to learn notes and scales
gain practice tips on learning new chord placements, and mastering tricky chord changes and common chord progressions
practice a range of simple strum and picking patterns
learn a little bit of theory … so you can see where it all fits together
play the 12 bar blues and simple songs
be given homework!
A limited number of ukuleles will be available for loan during each session, but you will need a ukulele of your own for practice at home. Please email Keryn at firstname.lastname@example.org if you need to borrow a ukulele.
