SPRUKE 2019 has a great program for you. Its free to enter with a great mix of free and ticketed events. There is something for everyone, at every playing level.
Evening concerts and most workshops are ticketed. All concerts and performances through the day are free. If you’ve never even picked up a ukulele before you can come to the FREE Learn to Play Ukulele workshop on Saturday and Sunday, and you’ll be strumming along with the rest in no time. There are smaller Beginner Oasis sessions all weekend- Learn anything from a celtic song, a timeless Beatles tune to a classic folk song all in simple two and three chords. Chill out with friends and enjoy the live music over four stages or make your own music- Join in a jam or step up to the open mic.
This year we are excited to present four concerts. The festival starts on Friday the Thirteenth with the Sprooky Cabaret presented by Cordoba. You’ll be spellbound by The Loveys, Mama Juju and the Jam Tarts, The Thin White Ukes and Ukulele Death Squad.
Saturday afternoon is the Schools Concert with six schools sharing their music culminating in a performance of special piece written for SPRUKE 2019 by Nathan Cahill “4-String Family”. Saturday night is Spruketacular presented by Lanikai, bringing together some of today’s best home-grown and international ukulele artists our very special guest Cynthia Lin, Gypsy Rumble, wrapping up with the world’s most dangerous ukulele group, Ukulele Death Squad.
Sunday Spruke 2019 wraps up with the Morris Brothers Festival Finale where we all come together, our BUMS community bands perform, our Sprukestar finalists and Parody Video Contest winner perform and you could take home a prize in the mega raffle- anything can happen!
Throughout the weekend players at all levels will find a workshop to inspire them. From learning a classic David Bowie tune with the Thin White Ukes, playing ‘slide’or jazz ukulele to brushing up on your stagecraft and another 10 workshops to explore.
